In the past I’ve often had a problem with New Year’s Eve. Everywhere is way more expensive than normal and the ‘pressure’ of having to have a particularly outstanding night often makes it an anti-climax. In the last couple of years I think we’ve got it right though…
Last year we sat on our roof here in Rincón watching the fireworks, which was pretty special as it was our first year on the island.
This year we saw in the New Year with our friends Stu and Ellie at their house in Bristol. It was a very pleasant evening spent eating curry (of course!), drinking wine (at least in my case) and catching up with our old friends. Midnight saw fireworks being set off around the neighbourhood and a couple of house parties spilling into the street for “Happy New Year”s all around.

I was just talking about that with a friend – it’s funny, in Sweden you NEVER go out on New Year’s Eve (ok, I recall one new year’s eve when I was 18 and I went to a club…). The evening is always spent with your friends in somebody’s home, eating a fancy but home-cooked meal, drinking (lots) and everybody is dressed up in suits and new dresses… That’s the Swedish tradition
Looks like you had a lovely evening, O and I celebrated the new year at home, eating a nice meal and looking down at the neighbours’ big party – it wasn’t as sad as it sounds!

It was a rather enjoyable evening. Shame to say Nick wasn’t in his new dress but maybe next year. The curry was good but the company was wonderful, without sounding too fluffy. Jim and Robbie thoroughly enjoyed their new playmates and a photo of the new reading club will be sent soon.

Hi P; Happy New Year! Doesn’t sound sad at all. Its all about who you’re with, not where you are!
Hi Stu; very droll. I hope Jim didn’t miss us too much when we left. I expect it didn’t take him long to get over it!
