Saturday was a very happy day for us, as 3 men showed up in a large van filled with furniture we’d bought earlier in the week in San Juan. I say ‘showed up’, but actually we had to go and find them. We’d been ultra-prepared and took a detailed (lovingly hand crafted) map of our area with us to the store, but naturally it got lost somewhere between the sales lady and the delivery sub-contractors!
Once we found them and escorted them back to our house, they unloaded a dining table & 6 ‘chairs’ (actually funky benches and stools), a leather corner sofa, a large display unit/bookcase, a side table, a queen size bed, 2 bedside tables and a dresser. We had the foresight to pay the extra $50 for assembly, so we sat back and watched as they put the dining table & chairs and bed together.
Unfortunately the metal frame for the bed was the wrong size, so they’ve got to come back (on Tuesday) with a replacement to finish the bed (bedroom photos after that). Equally unfortunately, after the delivery guys had left, Miri noticed a small defect in the leather right in the centre of one of the seats of the sofa. Many phone calls to the store followed – Miri is now on first name terms with one of the owners! – and happily they’ve agreed to replace the sofa on Tuesday. We also decided to order the chest of drawers that goes with the bedroom set as we’d been wavering in the store.
Its great to finally have some furniture in the house. We still need to find a coffee table, a sideboard for by the front door and a couple of nice big plants but its feeling a lot more like home now!

there is a lovely dutch word (learned way back when in Eindhoven)…”gezellig” roughly translated: cozy, comfy.
That is the feeling in those photos.
Enjoy…magnolia walls and all

Thanks Imma. We were hoping to get things a tad cozier last night by purchasing some throw pillows, a quilt for the bed etc but discovered that though Sears and JcPenney, the anchor stores at the big Mayaguez mall (home of Marshalls…)stay open until 10pm, everything else (including the actual mall) closes down at 7pm. After the 45 minute drive to the mall, we walked into Marshalls just as it was closing… 😦 Not a happy (nor productive) shopping trip but we’ll keep trying. There is, however, a high liklihood of a T ride down to Boylston street come Thanksgiving time…

Have been admiring pics of those gorgeous gleaming tile floors for a while, but how
wonderful to see furniture on those floors! What a relief it must be to have a sofa
to sit on, a real table and seating, shelving
for books and display items, etc etc. Enjoy
these, and the rest of the items you assemble
to create your home, in the best of health…

Thanks Aunt Tamar! There is a funny story about those tiles. We’ve been meeting with contractors regarding construction of the pottery studio and one of the guys actually worked on finishing off our house! He told us the guy who laid the tiles in the house was very pedantic to the point that he figured out that there is a design element in each tile that, when oriented correctly, forms faint square patterns across each 4 intersecting tiles. The contractor said the guy spend HOURS laying the tiles… We had not noticed this before but now know the story of our tiles and appreciate such attention to detail! And I’ll share one more secret with you: Those tiles look gleaming even when they are so dirty they turn your feet black (as we found out when we moved in). But yes, we think they are gorgeous too! Thanks.
