We keep sending our visitors off to Arecibo to see the observatory but up until now had not been ourselves. We rectified that yesterday with a morning at the world’s largest radio telescope and an afternoon shopping at the Barceloneta outlet mall.

For people interested in science, particularly outer space, Arecibo is a great attraction. They have an interesting visitor’s centre with lots of hands on exhibits and information about the science behind astronomy using radio telescopes.

Above my head you can see the flimsy looking walkway the technicians use to get out to the equipment suspended high above the primary reflector. There is NO WAY you would ever get me walking along that! 🙂
